What’s Drone
Drone is a today's term
for an unmanned flying device that remotely driven by what it called as pilot
like in an airplane. In today’s world, it is very important to understand for
both hobbyist and professionals to really understand how to fly drone safely.
In fact the history of
drone was back to the mid of 19th century. The first and recorded use of an
unmanned flying device was during the war between Austria and Italy. It was
Austrian that flew unmanned balloons loaded with explosives attacking the city
of Venice in 22 August 1849. But, it was not drone though for it was simply
flying unmanned balloons. So the issue of how
to fly drone was not yet an issue at that time!
You may learn the
complete history of drone from this link: drone history , including the first mass production of drone
was done by ‘Radioplane Company’ which produced about 15,000 radio-controlled planes
(RC plane) for US Army during World War II.
For decades afterwards most
people being more familiar with RC plane through the aeromodelling activity by
hobbyists. The know how to fly drone
safely then became an important issue, even though the term “drone” was not
yet introduced. It came a period that producers introduced hovering RC plane
with photography then video camera. The term drone then becomes more familiar for
hobby, photography and video professionals, and surely for military and
territory surveillance purposes.
This and the following
articles after, will tell you in a simple way how to fly drone safely for photography and videography purpose. I
use Phantom 2 Vision+ produced by DJI.
Drone Manual: Read Carefully!
Drone manufacturer
provide complete manual. As for Phantom 2 Vision+, beside the product manual, it includes also a piece of paper 'Quick Start Guide' for practical use easy to read and practice, and 'Phantom Pilot Training Guide'.
That set of manual is intended to be complete information on how to fly drone safely.
Rule #1: read the manuals thoroughly and carefully line by line in detail.
Please make sure you comprehensively understand what they explain on how to fly drone safely before you think
to even simply install the blades! Do not hesitate to ask via email to the
manufacturer or to professionals for things that you still don’t get into. I fortunately
met a professional when I purchased my first drone on the shop. He generously
shared his experiences how to fly drone
safely, and gave me all hints needed. He also gave me his contact number
for me to seek for advice.
Again,…rule #1 is read
the manual thoroughly and in detail on how
to fly drone safely.
